English — KongType App Privacy Policy
This policy describes how KongType handles information in its iOS and iPadOS app and keyboard extension. For privacy questions, contact [email protected].
1. Keyboard input stays on your device
Cantonese conversion runs locally. KongType does not send the text you type, the surrounding text used for suggestions, your custom words or your selected background photos to the developer’s servers. An app account is not required. The app does not include advertising, third-party analytics or cross-app tracking.
2. Information stored locally
The app stores keyboard preferences, custom work words, selected and processed background photos, and Pro access status on your device. The keyboard also stores selected words and selection counts locally to improve suggestion rankings. This is word-learning information, rather than a complete transcript of everything you type. An Apple App Group shares relevant settings, words, photos and Pro status between the app and its keyboard extension on the same device.
3. Full Access and photos
Basic typing and conversion work without Allow Full Access. Enabling it lets the keyboard use shared app settings, custom words and background photos, and enables sound and haptic features. Although iOS describes broader capabilities when granting this permission, KongType does not use it to upload keyboard input. You can revoke it in Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > KongType.
Background photos are selected through Apple’s system photo picker. KongType imports the photo you select and saves an original copy and a processed keyboard background locally. It does not scan or upload your photo library. Use Remove Background Photo in the app to remove its saved background copies; your original photo in Photos is unaffected.
4. Purchases and Apple services
Apple processes Pro subscriptions and any available Lifetime one-time purchase through the App Store. KongType uses StoreKit to check purchase entitlements and restore access, and stores the resulting Pro status locally. The developer does not receive your payment-card details. Apple may process account, transaction, diagnostic and device-backup information under its own privacy policy. The app’s local files may be included in operating-system backups according to your device settings.
4a. Optional translation and weather
English-to-Chinese translation uses Apple’s system translation framework with prepared language resources. Initial language downloads use Apple services. When the Hong Kong weather theme is enabled, the app or keyboard can request public weather data directly from the Hong Kong Observatory. These weather requests do not include typed text, photos or device location. The Observatory may receive normal network information such as the request’s IP address under its own service practices; KongType does not operate a weather tracking account.
5. Your choices and retention
You can edit or delete custom work words, remove background photos, and disable the keyboard or Full Access. Local preferences and learned words remain until removed through applicable app or system controls. Deleting the app and its keyboard removes their local app data according to iOS behavior; offloading an app may retain its data, and copies in device backups are controlled by your backup settings. KongType has no server-side keyboard account or typing history to delete. Deleting the app does not cancel an Apple subscription.
6. Support, children and changes
If you email support, the information you voluntarily provide is used to respond to your request. Please avoid sending passwords, payment details or private typing content. Support correspondence is kept only as needed for support and applicable obligations. KongType does not knowingly collect children’s personal information through the app. This policy covers the app; visiting this website or following external links may involve separate website or service practices. We will update this page and its effective date when app privacy practices change.
